How often should I see the dentist for a checkup?

Visiting your Arlington dentist regularly is one of the best things you can do to maintain a healthy, confident smile. For most people, a dental checkup every six months is ideal. These twice-yearly visits allow your dentist to monitor your oral health, perform a thorough cleaning, and catch any issues before they turn into more serious concerns.

However, some people may need to visit more frequently. If you have a history of gum disease, frequent cavities, are undergoing orthodontic treatment, or have certain medical conditions like diabetes, your dentist might recommend coming in every three to four months instead. These more frequent visits help manage ongoing concerns and keep your teeth and gums healthy.

It’s important to remember that regular dental checkups aren’t just about cleaning your teeth. They also involve checking for early signs of problems like:

  • Oral cancer
  • Jaw issues, like TMJ
  • Signs of systemic health problems

Your dentist can also give you personalized advice on brushing, flossing, diet, and lifestyle habits that impact your oral health.
