Unfortunately, if you feel self-conscious about aesthetic dental issues like stained, broken, or uneven teeth, you probably don’t feel much like smiling at all.

Porcelain veneers at Clarendon Family Dentistry in Arlington, VA, may be the ideal solution. These thin, custom-crafted shells of porcelain conceal whatever issues concern you. We place them on the front surfaces of teeth for a beautiful, blemish-free surface and an even, radiant smile.

Why Choose Porcelain Veneers?

You know you want to improve your smile's appearance, and veneers might be the way to get there. Take a look at the benefits to see what veneers offer!

Versatile

Veneers cover up imperfections such as chips, cracks, discoloration, and gaps. Depending on your needs, we can place a veneer on a single tooth, multiple teeth, or all teeth that show when you smile.

Natural-Looking

Made from high-quality porcelain, veneers mimic the natural look and feel of your teeth. We custom-craft your veneers to match the color, shape, and size of your existing teeth for a seamless appearance.

Long Lasting

Veneers are a durable cosmetic solution that often lasts 10 years or longer with proper care. They are stain-resistant and don’t require any special care aside from consistent brushing and flossing.

I highly recommend this practice.

What Issues Do Porcelain Veneers Correct?

A smiling dental hygienist in Arlington, VAOne thing our patients love about veneers is that we can place one veneer or several or even a full set for the most dramatic results. Here are a few of the cosmetic dental concerns we can address:

  • Broken teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Gaps or uneven spacing
  • Mild tooth misalignments
  • Badly stained or discolored teeth
  • Tooth shape or size discrepancies
  • Teeth that appear too small or short

When you meet with our cosmetic dentist, Dr. Brigid Mooney, she will discuss your goals and expectations. Then, she will perform an exam to ensure your teeth are healthy and ready to receive veneers. If Dr. Mooney finds a dental issue, she will recommend resolving that first.

Two Visits to a Stunning Smile!

During the first, we prepare your teeth by removing a thin layer of tooth enamel equal to the veneers’ thickness. Next, we take highly accurate, comfortable digital impressions and use a guide to help you select the shade of white that best matches your smile. Before you leave our office that day, we’ll place temporaries on your teeth to protect them until our custom dental lab finalizes your final pieces.

When your porcelain veneers are ready, you will return to Clarendon Family Dentistry. We will remove the temporaries, check your new veneers for fit, and make adjustments as needed. The final step is to polish them and cement them securely to your teeth.

If you maintain excellent oral hygiene and routine dental exams and cleanings, your new veneers can last as long as ten years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because crowns, veneers, and fillings are stain-resistant and maintain their color over time, traditional teeth whitening treatments do not work on them. These restorations are made from materials like porcelain or composite resin, so they won’t respond to whitening agents the way natural tooth enamel does.

If you attempt to whiten your teeth with over-the-counter products or professional treatments, you may notice that your natural teeth become lighter, while your crowns, veneers, or fillings stay the same color. This can lead to uneven results, making dental work more noticeable instead of blending in naturally.

If you’re concerned about the color of your dental restorations, please give us a call at Clarendon Family Dentistry. Our cosmetic dentists in Arlington, VA, will be happy to talk with you about your smile goals. We can replace older or discolored crowns, veneers, and fillings to give you a brighter, more uniform grin. Your dentist can also guide you on the best way to whiten your natural teeth while keeping your overall appearance balanced.

For the best long-term results, it's a good idea to whiten your natural teeth before getting any crowns, veneers, or fillings placed. That way, your dentist can match the restoration to your ideal shade. If you have questions or want to explore your options, we’re here to help you achieve a bright, seamless smile you’ll love to show off.

The answer to this question varies significantly for each person, as it depends mainly on how they care for their porcelain veneers.

The easy answer is that porcelain veneers typically last for 10 to 15 years with the proper care. The good news is that caring for porcelain veneers is relatively simple and straightforward because you can brush and floss around them just like you are used to.

Here are some additional tips to help you make the most of your porcelain veneers.

Caring for Porcelain Veneers 101

Daily brushing and flossing are essential because while veneers can resist cavities, the natural tooth underneath could become decayed without proper home care. Avoid whitening toothpaste as it can be abrasive and scratch the surface of your veneers.

Never use your teeth as tools to open or carry things, as this could cause a veneer to chip or pop off.

Visiting your dentist every six months for professional teeth cleanings and exams will also protect the health of your veneers. Your dentist can alert you to potential issues early on, allowing you to take proactive steps to protect your smile.

Direct Veneers: A Conservative Choice

It’s important to know you will always need to wear veneers because we alter the tooth's surface. Not sure if you want to commit? Ask us about direct veneers!

Our cosmetic dentist applies tooth-colored composite resin to certain teeth to conceal many of the same issues as lab veneers, and we can remove them at any time. Since we perform the entire procedure here at Clarendon Family Dentistry, direct veneers also tend to be more affordable.

Are Veneers Permanent? Understanding Their Longevity and Maintenance

Four veneers placed on a dark background

If you're considering dental veneers to transform your smile, you probably wonder how long your investment will last. The short answer is that while veneers are not technically permanent, they are a long-lasting cosmetic solution that, with proper care, provides beautiful results for many years.

The Lifespan of Tooth Veneers: What to Expect

While veneers require a permanent alteration to your natural teeth (some enamel must be removed for proper placement), the veneers will eventually need replacement. Here's what you can typically expect:
